Thai Vi Temple is located in Ninh Xuan commune, Hoa Lu district, Ninh Binh province with a spacious and airy space, which is both a historical and cultural heritage area and a famous place attracting foreign tourists. There are 2 ways to enter Thai Vi temple, you can go by road through Van Lam wharf and then turn into the road parallel to Ngo Dong river to enter the temple or you can take a boat downstream to Tam Coc. However, the entrance by waterway will be more unique. You will immerse yourself in the vast, vast space of nature, heaven and earth here.
Classical and unique architectural space
The temple is located in the middle of the natural landscape like a painting, the temple is built with a very unique structure. The pillars inside and outside the temple are made entirely of blue stone, and are carved as delicately and meticulously as on wood. In front of the temple is a jade well also made of stone, the water here is blue all year round. Behind the temple is the majestic Cam Son mountain range. In the temple, there are many valuable ancient statues, steles and bells. Stone stele engraved with names of people who have made meritorious services to visit and build temples.
When entering the temple, you will admire the main road and the large dragon yard, which is covered with green stone. On either side are two rows of Vong house - where the old people used to sacrifice in the past. Thai Vi Temple also has the Five Great Gates with extremely sophisticated carvings. The outside of the stone column is carved with prominent Chinese characters around the elaborately carved two dragons worshiping the moon.
Stepping up from the dragon yard to a height of 1.2m, you will see 6 parallel stone columns, carved embossed dragon king adoring in the front. The outside of the stone pillars and the eaves are intricately carved.
Although the stone pillars in the temple are carved, the stoneworkers have breathed soul into each pillar to help us see it as soulful and artistic. Whether it's sculpting couplets or expressing gratitude to people with meritorious services, they all have your very own soul. In the royal palace, there will be statues worshiping the Tran kings, if in the middle is King Tran Thanh Tong, on the left is King Tran Thai Tong, on the right is the statue of Hien Tu Hoang Thai Queen. The statues are meticulously carved and sharp on their faces, just like the portraits of kings.
Visit Thai Vi Temple Festival - Annual National Ceremony in Ninh Binh
Every 3 years in the years of the Tiger, the Horse, the Rabbit, the Rooster, at Thai Vi Temple, there will be a huge festival on the 3rd day of the 14th, 15th and 16th of the third lunar month. Because according to the old concept, the people of Tam Coc said that on March 15, after winning against the Nguyen - Mong army, the king went to Thien Truong, Ninh Binh to pay respects to his ancestors and celebrate the victory. On these days, the festival is also held here to celebrate the victory of the king and to remember those who have sacrificed heroically for the nation.
After completing the sacrifices at Dinh Cac, the villages will one after another go to Thai Vi temple to sacrifice to the Tran kings. After the sacrifice, there will be Cong Ca with a person playing a zither, a woman wearing a red and blue ao dai singing a song praising the merits of the Tran kings.
